Putting Speed to the Test

So today I had the pleasure of canceling half of my clear wireless subscription from clear.com and upgrading to their 4G+ 3G fallback services. It was not too painful a process other than haggling about stupid restocking fees. They wanted to charge me a $40 restocking fee on the old 4G modem that I was returning because I was "canceling" that service. I had to tell the guy, NO - I am upgrading my service for the 4G+ 3G! No way am I paying a restocking fee when I am going to be paying more $$ per month for upgraded service. They need to get there service department to understand what great customer service is.

So after finishing up at the clear store, I went to got test drive my new modem. The results were good. The spot I did the testing had free public wifi through att and starbucks, or something and below are the results.

Free Public wifi speed test results:

Clear Wireless Modem on 4G:

So, now to cancel my overpriced att 3G modem.

DrupalCon Session Picks for Monday

Here are my perspective picks for tomorrow at DrupalCon. Yes, some of the time slots have 2 picks for which my clone and I will be each attending separately.

Gitty About Adding Drupal Modules with Git

Here is the situation:
We are using a distro of Drupal that I made, which is just drupal core with a bunch of selected modules included. My distro can be found here: http://github.com/z3cka/drupal/tree/distro-z3
Note that this screencast is actually on the private repo that is a fork of the above. I will merge the new changes to the public distro-z3 at some point.

This is how I add a module to the distro branch and merge it into my core project branch.

So, WHY?

Before:

2010-04-07_1128-Before

After:

2010-04-07_1129-After
Dependencies of node_import are now met.

Cheers.

Student Hosting 2010

Two days ago I got a call from my former professor at UNLV. When I was in his web and object oriented programming courses I had an idea to provide access to a real hosting environment for other students. This will also provide me with some users to test how to manage multiple clients.

The funny thing is that Ranel, my professor, had crossed my mind maybe a few weeks ago. I was thinking that I should contact him to see how his projects are going and if I could play a role in helping out the class.

So the answer is yes. I have launched another hosting platform for this very reason. So, please fill out the form here http://twistedpairwd.com/free-hosting-students if you are interested. I will email you your access information over the weekend and get you all set up for hosting your school projects. The system is not automated so I will be in contact if i need anything else from you.

Thank you and enjoy.
